BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WABC) -- An out-of-control truck struck multiple parked cars in Brooklyn, pushing an SUV on top of one, before taking off.

Early Thursday around 2:30 a.m. in the Homecrest section, the truck driver ran into seven cars on Coney Island Avenue at Avenue R.

They were pushed together. The driver of the truck then left the scene.

No injuries were reported and police are looking for the driver who caused the crash. The impact ripped up the sidewalk nearby.

Neighbors said the "boom" woke them up. Several people along Coney Island Avenue found damage to their vehicles.

Witnesses said they think a red truck was responsible because there are red streak marks on the damaged cars.

Local merchants said the owner of one mangled SUV was on his way to work when he discovered the wreck. "He wasn't angry, he was upset," said Emil Bukher. "It's very upsetting to see your property being demolished in such a way."

Meanwhile, others said they are more concerned for people's safety. If the truck had struck a person, they said, the results would have been deadly.

"I'm not really care about the cars. I care about the people because you know, life is life," said Alex Blousou.

"I don't know I was terrified. That's a bad thing what happened," said Bakhti Musti, whose mangled SUV was one of the cars that got banged up overnight.

Cell phone video and pictures showed Musti's SUV on top of another parked car.

"Maybe he was drunk. Maybe he was bad mood," said Musti of the truck driver. "So I dunno, I don't have any words to say to him."

The impact was so powerful it knocked down a school crossing sign and ripped out the sidewalk beneath it.

Neighbors say they still can't believe what happened.

"Boom! Real loud, like a bomb. It was crazy...it was like a movie. I didn't think it was real. I still think it was a movie. Is it a movie?", said a neighbor named George.

Yocheved Frankel says it was a terrifying sound that woke her up. A mangled SUV was pinned next to her car.

"It sounded like a bomb. Like a bomb went off. It was really horrible. I thought I was in a dream and then when I woke up in the morning it was a reality. Was really really scary," she said.
