Pedestrian hit on Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream

VALLEY STREAM, Long Island (WABC) -- A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured on the Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream early Tuesday.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, a woman was crossing south to north on Sunrise Highway, near Green Acres Road West, when a 2002 Hyundai Elantra hit her.

The Elantra, driven by a 24-year-old woman, was headed west on Sunrise.

The victim suffered severe head trauma and was taken to a hospital. The pedestrian is in serious condition.

Westbound lanes near the Green Acres Mall closed after the 2 a.m. crash.

There is no criminality suspected. This investigation is ongoing.
