BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn (WABC) -- An argument between two teen girls and a 78-year-old woman over a subway seat in Brooklyn apparently sparked a violent attack that sent the woman to the hospital Thursday.

The dispute started on the Franklin Avenue Shuttle Thursday at around 3:30 p.m.

According to the New York City Police Department, one of the girls had her foot on a seat. The elderly woman asked her to move so she could sit down, and one of the teens started cursing at her.

Police said the girls followed the woman to the C train platform at Franklin Avenue station in Bedford-Stuyvesant, and the argument turned physical. The teen girls, ages 16 and 15, punched and kicked the woman multiple times all over her body, including her head and face, police said.

The teens fled on an incoming southbound train.

The woman was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The woman and the teens did not know each other before the confrontation, police said.

The mothers of both girls saw the picutres released by the NYPD, and turned them in.

the mother of one of the girls wanted in the attack brought her to the police precinct. She is being questioned.

The second girl was taken into custody a short time later. Charges are pending against both girls.
