NEW PALTZ, New York (WABC) -- The New Paltz Police Department has made an arrest in a sexual assault at an apartment complex.

Kevin Guerrero, of New Windsor, was arraigned on burglary and rape charges, and is being held in Ulster County Jail without bail. He was arrested around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a statement from police, on Sept. 4, a man entered a woman's apartment in the Village of New Paltz complex while she was sleeping in her bedroom, then sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to fend off the suspect, who fled.

Police said two similar incidents occurred at other apartments in the Village. The victim told Eyewitness News that a man jumped in her bed, and she and a roommate yelled at him to leave. Two of the victims are SUNY New Paltz students who live off campus.

Police said the suspect gained access by pushing in an air conditioning unit in one incident, went through an unlocked door in another, and through an open window in the third.

The SUNY New Paltz Police Department, the Ulster County SANE Unit and the New York State Police are assisting with the investigation. Police are asking students not to walk alone at night.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the New Paltz Police Department at (845) 255-1323.
