BEDFORD PARK (WABC) -- The search is on for a man who attacked an elderly woman in her Bedford Park home, and threatened to kill her before stealing her money.
NYPD surveillance video shows the alleged assailant ambling through the apartment building on Grand Concourse, seemingly without a care in the world. However, what can't be seen is what police say he did to the 76-year-old as she walked into the apartment where she has lived for decades.
The assailant allegedly grabbed her by the back of her neck, dragged her into the kitchen and threw her on the floor. He told her that he wanted money and was going to kill her.
The woman's downstairs neighbor, Ann Treanor recounted the horror her friend has reliving for the padt week. It was exactly one week ago the man followed her into the locked door of her building, ignoring signs that he was on camera. He then walked up the steps behind her, where he brutalized her for $500.
"She's frightened out of her skin, more than likely she'll never come out here to live," Treanor says.
The victim told police she thought she recognized the man from hanging around her church right up the block, but no one there recognizes him. In the victim's tight-knit church community, they are all terrified. This, they say could easily have happened to any of them.
The case is even more chilling for the suspect's demeanor on camera. He strolled down the front steps after the attack, making no effort to hide his face or run from his crime.
