STAFFORD TOWNSHIP (WABC) -- Police have identified the two women who were killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County that injured six other people.

The accident happened at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the southbound lanes at mile marker 63.6 in Stafford Township.

Authorities say a car driven in the right lane by 45-year-old Naoma Johnson apparently entered the center lane and struck a pickup truck. The collision sent both cars careening off the left side of the highway.

Johnson and her 70-year-old mother, Frances Hill, both of Washington Township (Gloucester County) were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Two 14-year-old passengers in her car - a boy and a girl sitting in the back seat - were injured, along with two adults and two young children in the pickup.

The boy and girl in the Saturn were airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City with serious injuries.

The four people in the pickup truck - a man, a woman, a boy and a girl - were taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center in West Manahawkin with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Johnson and the injured girl lived at the same address, authorities said, but it was not clear if they were related.

The pickup truck's driver, Amedeo Bove, 41, of Warren, was taken to the hospital with his wife, Raffaella, 45, and their two children, a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. It did not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the crash, authorities said.

Troopers were forced to shut down a southbound stretch of the highway for a few hours while the accident investigation was ongoing, which caused major traffic delays in the area.
