Police on alert after Wantagh girls accosted
N.J. Burkett reports police are looking for a suspect who lured two 10-year-old girls.

WANTAGH, Long Island (WABC) -- Authorities on Long Island are looking for a suspect who told two 10-year-old girls to follow him and pursued them on foot.

Police say the girls were walking in Wantagh Monday when a dark-colored car with tinted windows pulled up beside them.

Investigators say the driver told the girls to follow him and drove to the next intersection, where he made a U-turn and came back toward them.

Police say he got out of his car, asked the girls why they were running from him and told them to "come with me now."

The girls ran until they reached one of their homes and told a parent what happened. No injuries were reported.

Patrols have been stepped up in the area, and police are warning children to be alert and aware.

"If you are grabbed by this individual, you can do anything you need to do to get away," Nassau police Detective Lieutenant Richard LeBrun said. "You can bite, you can scream, you can kick, you can scratch, and do anything you can to get away."

The suspect is described as a white male his late 20s or early 30s, standing about 5-foot-8 and last seen wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.
