NEW YORK -- A man stabbed his father during a dispute and then jumped to his death out the window of their East Side high rise.

The 27-year-old suspect slashed his 65-year-old father in the face and head inside their 46th floor apartment just before 7 a.m., according to the New York City Police Department.

The son then ran into a bedroom, locked the door behind him and jumped out the window, police said. The suspect was barricaded in the apartment when police arrived and police negotiated with him before he jumped.

He fell 46 stories, landing on the roof of a Bank of America building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The father was not seriously injured and told detectives what happened.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with lacerations to his face and head and was in stable condition.
