Man turns self in for attempted rape in Washington Heights

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- A man wanted in connection with an attempted rape has turned himself in to police.

Anthony Ramon, 19, of New York, was charged with attempted rape, burglary, sex abuse and public lewdness on Wednesday. The suspect surrendered after seeing himself on TV. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

According to the New York City Police Department, at 1 a.m. Aug. 29, the suspect followed a woman onto the elevator of her apartment building on West 172 Street in Washington Heights. The suspect followed her when she got to her floor.

As she began to open her apartment door, the suspect tried to rape her. The victim was able to fight him off, and got into her apartment and locked the door.

The suspect then fled.
