NEW YORK (WABC) -- Port Authority police are stepping up security at New York City area airports following a deadly bombing at an airport in Turkey Tuesday.

The Port Authority said it has added "high visibility patrols equipped with tactical weapons and equipment" at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty Airport.

"The agency continues to monitor the situation in Turkey and is collaborating with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to include the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force," said the Port Authority in a statement.

According to the Port Authority, this heightened security will be in addition to stepped-up patrols following the mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub earlier this month.

Meantime, there is extra security at the Turkish Embassy on the East Side of Manhattan.

There are about 350,000 Turkish Americans in the United States, the biggest population is located in the Tri-State area.

For many of them, the situation was obviously nerve wracking.
