Police investigating deadly Hoboken hit and run

HOBOKEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police are searching for a hit and run driver after the 21-year-old cousin of Ben Simmons, the NBA's number one draft pick, was struck and killed in Hoboken.

The fatal collision occurred around 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Willow Avenue at Sixth Street.

Zachary Simmons, of Ramsey, New Jersey was was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center.

It appears that the impact threw Zachary's body into the rear of a parked vehicle.

He had gone with Ben to the draft in Brooklyn Thursday, where he was selected first by the Philadelphia 76ers.

The victim's mother said he was walking back from a friend's birthday party when he was killed.

According to Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, police are looking for a large black SUV, like a Yukon, Tahoe or Escalade with New York plates.

The Hudson County Sheriff's Crash Investigation Unit and Hoboken Police are investigating. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call either agency.
