Service restored after outage at JFK
Diana Rocco reports service has been restored following a computer outage Sunday night at JFK Airport.

JAMAICA, Queens (WABC) -- Computers are back up and running at JFK Airport's Terminal 7 after an outage caused delays for international travelers.

The Verizon service outage caused computers to go down Sunday afternoon, leaving hundreds of customers waiting in long check-in lines.

Some were even given hand-written boarding passes.

Service was restored around 2:30 Monday morning.

British Airways advised travelers to leave extra time Monday in case of any residual problems.

Passengers told Eyewitness News that it was a nightmare all day and all night. Many travelers were waiting to take international flights for more than 95 minutes.

Another customer tweeted a letter they received from Cathay Pacific airlines, saying the computer check-in system was affected due to the Verizon outage.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Neal Buccino said that all computers are up and running.

Buccino says Terminal 7 is operated by British Airways, which leases space to other carriers. He says at one point Sunday night, more than 1,000 passengers were waiting in line to get checked in. He says the number dropped to about 80 by midnight.

Buccino said the crowds were orderly and that British Airways had been making regular announcements.
