Police in Connecticut say a gunman opened fire in downtown Stamford early Sunday, leaving five people wounded.

According to investigators, 22-year-old Dayron Wills was involved in an altercation at about 1:30 a.m. at Tino's Nightclub on West Park Place.

Police say he pulled out a handgun and began shooting at the person he was having an altercation with. Video evidence showed Wills indiscriminately firing his weapon into a crowd and towards the crowded downtown area, hitting five innocent people, police said.

Four males and one female were treated for gunshot wounds to their upper and lower extremities and were rushed to an area hospital. Their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Police later discovered a loaded .40-caliber handgun at the scene of the shooting.

Authorities say Wills has a valid pistol permit and was legally registered to carry the weapon. Officers also seized a small amount of marijuana from his person.

Wills appeared in court Monday morning. He is being held on $1 million bond and is due back in court on July 28.
