Suspect arrested for entering Union City school causing lockdown

UNION CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A Newark man has been arrested accused of entering three New Jersey schools causing at least two of them to go on lockdown.

Raymond Pinkney was taken into custody near his Newark home without incident.

Police say Pinkney provided detectives with a formal statement as to his involvement in the incidents.

"I commend the Union City Police Department and other agencies that worked so diligently to apprehend this suspect," said Mayor Brian Stack of Union City.

The 53-year-old suspect is charged with two counts of burglary and accused of unlawful entry to the George Washington School in Union City, The Robert Waters School in Union City and Daniel Webster School in Weehawken.

Pinkney is being held on $30,000 bond.
