Suspect arrested in rape of woman in Riverside Park

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- The NYPD has arrested a man accused of raping a woman in Riverside Park Saturday morning.

26-year-old Anthony Camilo of the Bronx is charged with rape, felony assault and strangulation.

The victim says she met Camilo on a train and he promised her his friend could give her a ride to Brooklyn.

That's when they walked to the park near West 70th Street and he choked her, forced her to the ground and raped her.

The victim screamed for help, and the suspect fled from the location.

Responding officers canvassed the park, and with a detailed description provided by eyewitnesses at the scene, Camilo was taken into custody without incident at West 72 Street and Riverside Boulevard, within the park.

The victim was taken to Saint Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

The victim screamed for help, and the suspect fled from the location, before being apprehended by responding officers.
