MAHWAH, N.J. (WABC) -- A man in New Jersey is undergoing a mental evaluation after he barricaded himself for several hours inside his home at a condominium complex in Mahwah, N.J.

The situation began at about 11 a.m. Tuesday at Society Hill on Juniper Way.

Police say the 27-year old man put a note on his door saying there was a biohazard in the building.

The Bergen County Police Department SWAT team and a hazmat team were activated.

The man barricaded himself in an attic. It wasn't clear if he had a weapon.

Officers negotiated with him for hours before he turned himself in Tuesday afternoon.
