Truck stuck in hole as officials debate how to remove it
Tim Fleischer is at the scene with the latest

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WABC) -- Crews used a crane to remove a private sanitation truck that was stuck in the pavement of an elevated parking deck in Flatbush. It took officials hours to decide the best way to remove the truck.

The Five Star Carting truck was passing by for its usual pickup when it suddenly fell through the upper level of this parking garage. The truck began sinking into the structure on Flatbush Avenue between Avenue H and East 32nd Street in Brooklyn just after 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The driver was able to get out of the truck as two sections of the parking deck collapsed under the vehicle. The truck came to rest on steel support beams, but it posed a complicated issue of how to remove it.

Police closed the parking lot, where there is a strip mall nearby leaving stores there without parking for customers.

Eyewitness News reporter Tim Fleischer was on site:

City buildings inspectors are now on site checking for structural damage and integrity. The lot also sits next to a strip of stores whose customers use the parking lot which is now off limits.
