Union City fire leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

UNION CITY (WABC) -- One person was killed and two others injured a house fire in New Jersey early Monday.

The fire broke out in a two-story house on 34th Street just before 4 a.m.

Two residents were able to flee the building, one with minor injuries, while two others had to be rescued.

An elderly man pulled from the second floor suffered fatal injuries, while a woman rescued from the first floor was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.

Power and gas were shut off to the building.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and the cause is under investigation.
