RIDGEWOOD, N.Y. (WABC) -- A 65-year-old man shot his wife and daughter Tuesday night -- and then committed suicide as police surrounded the building.
The 54-year-old wife was shot twice in the back and the 34-year-old daughter was shot once in the arm at the home in Ridgewood, Queens on Gates Avenue. The shooting occurred sometime after 6 p.m.
When police responded, the man refused to come out. Police and hostage negotiators responded to the scene, waiting outside for hours before entering the apartment and discovering the 65-year-old man dead. He apparently hanged himself.
The two women were stable, and taken to Elmhurst Hospital. They are expected to survive.
Detectives said they were not cooperating with the investigation.
