Video captures chaotic scene after shooting of 2 innocent bystanders in the Bronx

MOUNT HOPE, Bronx (WABC) -- Cameras captured the chaos after two people simply standing on a street corner were hit by stray bullets in the Bronx on Monday night.

One of the victims says he's shocked he is still alive.

It happened along a busy stretch at 179th Street and Grand Concourse at about 6:30 p.m.

63-year-old Roselio Gomez was standing just off the corner in the shade when he heard the shots.

Store surveillance cameras recorded the scene as a gunman sprayed the street corner with at least half a dozen bullets.

Surveillance video shows the scene where two people were shot outside a deli in the Bronx.

Bystanders dove for cover and a 20-year-old woman was shot in the leg.

A man identified as her boyfriend tore off his shirt to stop the bleeding amid all the panic on the Grand Concourse.

It's still not clear who the intended target was, but investigators are convinced it was not the young woman or Gomez, who was struck in the lower leg.

He was so frightened at the time he didn't even realize he'd been hit.

"I Heard a whole bunch of people screaming and I heard the shots," Gomez said through an interpreter. "I was shot in the lower part of the leg. After I heard the shot, I went home and that's when I noticed I was shot."

Both victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police returned to the grocery Tuesday, where they spent more than an hour scrutinizing the surveillance video for a possible suspect.
