Graphic video shows escalator accident in China that led to leg amputation

SHANGHAI, China (WABC) -- There's been another tragic escalator-related accident in China.

State-run media said a 35-year-old man had part of his leg amputated when it got stuck in a Shanghai mall escalator.

Surveillance video shows one of the escalator's floor panels giving way, trapping the man's leg.

The incident comes days after a 30-year-old mother died in central China when she fell through an escalator metal panel.

A toddler was hurt in southwest China last week after his hand and arm got caught in a gap of an escalator.

Despite the incident, China said there were just 49 escalator or elevator-related accidents last year.
