WEST ORANGE (WABC) -- A gas station clerk was shot during an attempted robbery in New Jersey overnight, and police are investigating if the incident is linked to a similar one last week.

The 56-year-old clerk was shot once in the groin while working at the Delta station on Park Avenue and near Spring Street in West Orange just before 10 p.m. Monday.

The clerk was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

Detectives have not yet spoken to him to get a better description of the armed suspect, but they say he was covering his face with a green ski mask.

He took off on foot, but may have got in a white car to make his getaway.

So far, no arrests have been made.

In the other incident last monday, the clerk was shot in the stomach at a Delta station on Route 46 and Main Street in Ridgefield Park.

Police from several agencies are now working together on the investigation.
