PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS (WABC) -- Police used deadly force against a suspect in Brooklyn Sunday after they say he lunged at them with a pair of scissors.

The scene played out around 8:30 p.m. after officers responded to a 911 call of a man with a knife in a second-floor apartment on Clarkson Avenue in the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.

Upon arrival, two officers found a 38-year-old woman with a stab wound to the shoulder in the lobby of the building.

After gaining entry to the second-floor apartment, authorities say the officers were confronted by a 39- year-old man, the victim's common law husband, who came at them with the scissors.

The officers both discharged their weapons, hitting the man in the hand and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition

Both police officers were taken to Maimonides Hospital.

A pair of scissors were recovered at the scene.
