JERICHO (WABC) -- A Nassau County farm owner was arrested Tuesday and charged with 25 counts of animal neglect.

Authorities say Michael Domrek, who operates Merin Farms on Jericho Turnpike, had seven horses, three donkeys, two dogs, eight goats, one sheep, two rabbits and two geese that were confined on his property in poor and unsafe living conditions such that there was danger to the health of the animals.

Some of the animals were also found to be in poor health, according to officials, and the entire property was said to be filled with debris and manure.

Additionally, the various water containers observed on the property were lined with a green slimy substance, believed to be algae, and trash was strewn about various areas.

A male gray and white donkey was reportedly observed with open wounds on his legs, and a portion of a paddock with four miniature horses was said to have collapsed.

The conditions were deemed hazardous to the lives of the animals, and Domrek was taken into custody.
