NORTH HILLS, N.Y. (WABC) -- Pick up or pay up.

A community on Long Island approved fines for residents who don't pick up after their pets, even on their own lawn.

The Village of North Hills' board of trustees Wednesday night voted unanimously for the measure.

Residents must "promptly" clean up after their pets or face a $50 fine.

It's not clear how the law will be enforced on private property.
