WHITE PLAINS (WABC) -- A former New York City Councilman from Queens charged in an election bribery scandal is set to take the stand at his trial Thursday.

Daniel Halloran is accused of taking money to fix last year's Republican mayoral primary for fellow Queens lawmaker State Senator Malcolm Smith.

Halloran is expected to say the money he received came from legal campaign contributions.

He faces a harsh cross-examination over the more than $20,000 in bribes he is accused of accepting.

Halloran is expected to testify through Friday.

He face up to 45 years in prison if convicted.
