NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's the time of the year for college campus tours and the First Family is no different.

Malia Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama got a lot of attention Friday as they checked out two campuses in Manhattan.

Forget campaign tours, Malia Obama's college tours are now generating all the buzz after secret visits to NYU and her father's alma mater Columbia University on Friday.

Photos were captured by the Columbia student-run Bwog site of the Obamas lunching at Community Food and Juice on Broadway in Morningside Heights.

Soon after the NYPD 26th Precinct tweeted, "We'd like to welcome the First Lady @MichelleObama and her daughter to the #Morningside Heights community."

Meanwhile, the NYU Local is reporting the Obamas got a secret tour of Goddard Hall and Weinstein Hall Friday morning.

Not attending, but with his daughter in spirit, President Obama made the following remarks at a community college in Indianapolis.

"Malia's now at the age where she's starting to look at colleges, and I said, 'You know, these days I hear everybody's looking for fancy gyms and gourmet food, and, you know, really spiffy dorms, and let me tell you, when I was in college, you know, the college I started at, Occidental College, you know, it did had a gym, but, but like, the weight room was, you know, it was like a medicine ball, and, you know, you had, you had like, I mean it wasn't fancy,'" the President said.

In addition to NYU and Columbia, Malia has also toured the University of California at Berkeley and Stanford.
