Enormous corn maze has lost visitors calling 911 to escape

DIXON, Calif. -- The owners of the world's largest corn maze, here in Northern California, say they've learned a lesson this year.

There is such a thing as too big, so they'll probably scale back next year.

The 60-acre Cool Patch Pumpkins maze in Solano County turned out to be so difficult that some people got stuck in it for hours and ended up calling 911 for help.

But police say they were able to handle it all over the phone with the maze owners and never had to actually send an officer out there.

"Try to make it to the edge," one dispatcher said to a lost woman in an audio recording.

The woman asked dispatch if she should just wait where she was. "I don't know what to do anymore. We've been in here like four hours," she responded.

The owners plowed down the maze a few days ago after getting the evidence they needed to apply for the honor of World's Largest Corn Maze.

They admit next year they'll probably build a smaller one.
