SMITHTOWN, Long Island (WABC) -- A group of special needs adults are making Christmas brighter for families on Long Island who have fallen on hard times.

They're with WellLife Network. They raised $250, which was matched to total $500, for the WellLife Network food pantry in Smithtown.

Those with the network said when the adults heard that some people on Long Island are unable to afford holiday meals, they decided to raise money to help. They did it through bake sales and other small fundraisers.

Their efforts inspired others to donate more than $4,000 to the food pantry.
