NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WABC) -- A former high school basketball star and top St. John's recruit was arrested in connection with a shooting in his native Philadelphia.

Twenty-two-year-old Rysheed Jordan, who attended Vaux High School and went on to play two seasons with the Red Storm, is charged with attempted murder, robbery and other offenses.

Jordan was attempting to turn pro and was chosen fifth overall in the NBDL draft, but he played only 11 games for the Delaware 87ers before being cut.

The alleged crime occurred during the afternoon of May 27 on the 2400 block of Diamond Street.

Police say Jordan and two other suspects arranged via Facebook to meet three men to sell a cellphone.

During the meeting, police say Jordan and the two other suspects attempted to rob the victims, who fled the scene.

Jordan allegedly shot one victim in the arm.

He was taken into custody around 2 a.m. Wednesday on the 2100 block of North 15th Street.

When initially confronted by officers, police say Jordan attempted to flee on foot, but was captured.
