NJ shot put athlete is a future star
Laura Behnke has the story of a New Jersey athlete aiming for the national shot put title.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Tri-State Area is home to the nation's top high school shot putter, and while you may not know Alyssa Wilson now, this scholar-athlete is certainly one to keep an eye on.

The senior at Donovan Catholic in Toms River not only excels in the classroom and on the field, but she's yet to meet a challenge she hasn't liked.

Already an outdoor shot put national champion, Wilson in February became an American high school national record holder, with a throw of 57 feet, 5.5 inches at the Eastern State Invitational at the Armory in Washington Heights.

The next challenge comes this weekend back at the Armory, as Wilson looks to add an indoor national championship to the outdoor title she secured last year.
