HIGHBRIDGE, Bronx (WABC) -- A man was killed in a fiery crash on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx early Saturday.

The accident happened at about 3:15 a.m. in the vicinity of 161st Street in the Highbridge section.

Crews arrived to find a white Mercedes overturned and in flames.

The driver, 47-year-old William Santana of the Bronx, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Santana's car was driving side by side with a Lincoln SUV approaching exit 7 at the Cross Bronx Expressway when the vehicles made contact with each other.

The Mercedes continued into a grassy area and struck the wall of the exit ramp.

The 52-year-old driver of the Lincoln refused medical attention at the scene.

Police are trying to determine whether the slick road conditions were a factor in the crash.
