WANTAGH (WABC) -- An accident in Wantagh late Friday night left one person dead and closed a stretch of the Southern State Parkway.

Police say a 2001 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound between Wantagh Avenue and the Wantagh State Parkway when the driver lost control of his vehicle.

The Honda crossed all of the eastbound lanes and collided with the center median metal divider.

The collision with the metal divider sent the Honda airborne into the westbound lanes where it collided with a 2001 Nissan Maxima, police say.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the Nassau University Medical Center.

All occupants in the Nissan suffered minor injuries.
