GLEN COVE (WABC) -- An 11-year-old boy was being treated for a broken leg after he was hit by a car while walking to school on Long Island Wednesday.

The sixth grader was walking in Glen Cove on his way to North Shore Middle School when he was struck while crossing Kissam Lane at about 8 a.m.

The female driver stopped at the scene.

The boy was alert, conscious and talking when he was transported to the hospital with leg and mouth injuries.

No criminality was suspected, and no charges were filed.

Edward Melnick, superintendent of North Shore schools, said the boy will be fine but sent an email to parents to make sure they knew his condition.

Police say boy darted out in front of the car, which was reportedly going the speed limit.
