Grand Central Parkway motorcycle crash leaves 1 dead, traffic backed up

EAST ELMHURST (WABC) -- A deadly accident on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens stalled traffic and created a commuting nightmare near LaGuardia Airport Tuesday morning.

The involved a motorcycle and an SUV and happened around 4:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes near 94th Street in East Elmhurst.

Upon arrival, police observed two individuals with body trauma. The first victim, a 20-year-old woman, was rushed by EMS to Elmhurst General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

A 21-year-old man sustained injuries to his shoulder and legs and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Both victims are believed to have been riding on the motorcycle.

The investigation is ongoing, and only the left lane of traffic was getting by during the cleanup.

The identification of the fatality is pending family notification.
