Long Island man charged with driving drunk with 3 children in back seat of pickup truck

NEW HYDE PARK (WABC) -- Police in Nassau County arrested a man for allegedly driving drunk with three children in the back of a pickup truck.

Nassau County police received a 911 call at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday for a three vehicle auto accident that occurred at the intersection of Covert Avenue and 11th Street in New Hyde Park.

When officers arrived, they say 52-year old Timothy McAleavey of Stewart Manor was observed being unsteady on his feet, glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his breath.

McAleavey was arrested at the scene.

Also three children ages 1, 2 and 4 (not related) were seated in the rear of the defendants' 2003 Ford pickup truck at the time of the accident.

No one was injured. The children were released to the mother who was inside the automobile at the time of the accident.

McAleavey is being charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Driving Intoxicated -Leandra's' Law, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated, Excessive Tinted Windows and 3 counts of Rear Passengers under the age of 4 Unrestrained.
