HICKSVILLE, Long Island (WABC) -- A mother and her two daughters are hospitalized Friday after they were struck by a car in Hicksville Thursday night.

The incident happened at Old Country Road and New Bridge Road just before 10 p.m.

The 43-year-old mother and her daughters, ages 11 and 4, are listed in critical condition.

The three were hit by a gray Honda Accord headed south on New Bridge Road Christmas Eve as they were crossing near the intersection.

The driver, who lives nearby, stayed at the scene and was being interviewed by police.

The area was closed off for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation.

No charges have been filed at this time, and police have deemed it accidental.

The vehicle was being tested for possible equipment failure.
