BELLEVILLE, N.J. (WABC) -- A tractor-trailer that overturned on N.J. Route 21 in Belleville killing two people has now been removed from the roadway.

NJ Route 21 has reopened between East Third Avenue in Newark and Exit 8-CR 646/Park Avenue in Nutley Township.

Around 7:25 p.m. Monday at milepost 6.4, first responders were called to the scene where they found three vehicles -- a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles -- involved in the wreck. The tractor-trailer and one of the passenger vehicles were on fire when they arrived. Two occupants in a passenger vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the other passenger vehicle and the tractor-trailer were uninjured.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. No charges have been filed at this time, according to Thomas Fennelly, chief assistant prosecutor of Essex County.

The owner of the trucking company, Camillo Rubio of RNA Trucking in North Bergen, said that the driver was crying and shaken up. He also described him as one of his best drivers.

At the time, all lanes were closed for 10 hours and detoured with a 35-40 minute delay.

This incident is under investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call (877) 847-7432 or (973) 621-4586.
