Pedestrian struck and killed on Belt Parkway in Queens

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS (WABC) -- Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while walking along the Belt Parkway in Springfield Gardens, Queens early Saturday.

According to the NYPD, at about 2 a.m. the man was walking along the eastbound parkway at Exit 22 for Springfield Boulevard, adjacent to the south side of the concrete median divider at that location when he was struck by a 2003 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 21-year-old woman, and traveling in the left travel lane.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim unconscious and unresponsive with trauma about the body, lying on the roadway.

EMS responded to the location and pronounced the man dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified.

The vehicle remained at the scene. There are no arrests.

The investigation is ongoing.
