NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) -- Newark police are looking for a tractor-trailer driver who they said killed a pedestrian then kept going.

Richard Williams-Holt, 40, was trying to cross the street at the intersection of Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street around 5 p.m. Monday when he was struck.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver stopped, got out of this rig, saw what happened, then took off. According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as a 43-year-old Newark man.

Officials said he also hit a parked car. An SUV was found smashed at the accident.

The victim was rushed to Newark University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said the tractor-trailer had a phone number on it which they tried to call.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
