SCARSDALE (WABC) -- A Westchester County police officer is hospitalized in stable condition after being hit by a car.

The accident happened on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale at about 9:30 Saturday night.

Authorities say the officer was struck outside his patrol car after he had closed the right lane while waiting for a tow truck to aid a disabled vehicle.

Paramedics took the officer to Westchester County Medical Center.

Authorities closed down several lanes so they could investigate and clean up the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the officer - a 63-year-old Massachusetts woman -- was evaluated by county police and determined not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

No charges have been filed, although the investigation is continuing.
