Nor'easter whips up huge waves, flooding along Jersey Shore, Long Island
NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- Parts of Atlantic City and other towns along the Jersey shore are dealing with tidal flooding from the winter nor'easter.
The tide reached 7.8 feet in Atlantic City Tuesday morning, just short of the 8-foot threshold that can lead to major flooding.
Moderate flooding was expected with Tuesday morning's high tide.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden said that the storm surge "puts pressure on the storm drainage system which backs up and all that packed slush and ice packs up in the storm drain," said Golden.
On Union Beach, the police department reported flooding along Front and other streets.
Roads also closed in Neptune Township because of flooding.
Manasquan also reported moderate flooding.
Minor to moderate property damage is possible. Lingering minor coastal flooding is possible with Tuesday night's high tide.
