NEW YORK (WABC) -- "Manhattanhenge" will be making its final 2015 appearance at sunset Monday.

Hundreds of people gathered on Manhattan's East Side to watch the event Sunday night.

Four days every year the sunset aligns with the city's street grid, creating a shaft of light between the buildings.

Monday night's sunset, at 8:27 p.m., will be the last "Manhattanhenge" experience until next spring.

The term "Manhattanhenge" was popularized by Hayden Planetarium Director Neil deGrasse Tyson. The occurrence reminded him of Stonehenge, where the sun aligns with ancient stones.
