NEW YORK (WABC) -- Weather similar to a nor'easter is expected to batter the New York City area Friday afternoon, bringing strong winds and rain.

This system is far ahead of any sort of impact that Hurricane Joaquin would bring to the region.

Here's a breakdown of what to expect over the next couple days:

FRIDAY AFTERNOON

Rain will pick up Friday afternoon from New York City south and east, Goldberg said. Winds will gust to 35mph. Although not a classic nor'easter, conditions will be similar. Coastal flooding could become moderate late Friday and into the weekend during high tide cycles. It's important to note this is separate from Joaquin.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Rain will continue heavy at times Friday night, along with gusty winds. Note that 1 to 2 inches of rain can cause street flooding in poor drainage areas.

SATURDAY

Rain will lighten up on Saturday with the main concern being additional coastal flooding.
