One person has been killed after a fire ripped through a home in Nutley, the Essex County Prosecutors Office says.

NUTLEY, New Jersey (WABC) -- One person was killed after a fire tore through a house in New Jersey, the Essex County Prosecutors Office reports.

Flames broke out at the home on 17 Myrtle Ave. in Nutley on Saturday evening.

Police and fire crews were on the scene investigating late into Saturday night.

The victim has been identified as 74-year-old Joseph Collar. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

It is not clear what started the fire.
