PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after a police-involved shooting took place in Brooklyn Monday night, according to officials.

NYPD Police Chief of Department Terence Monahan says police received 911 calls of a man with a gun at 125 Lenox Road in Prospect Lefferts Gardens around 5:45 p.m.

A police-involved shooting took place in Brooklyn Monday night, according to officials.

He says when cops arrived to the scene, they found a man, who did not match the description given to police, holding a gun.

Officers took the suspect into custody and recovered the weapon.

Monahan says while officers were taking the suspect into custody, he yelled out "he coming, he gonna blast me."

That's when officials say a second man, who fit the 911 call description, rushed at the officer.

Officers gave commands for the individual to backup and show his hands. The suspect continued to rush at officers and reached for his waist like he was pulling out a gun, although he did not have one.

One officer fired two shots at the man, who was struck once in his right leg.

Cops say they have body camera footage of the incident which has not been released yet.
