HAMPTONS (WABC) -- Police on Long Island say a man who disabled his interlock device struck and killed well-known Hamptons businesswoman and cookbook author Anna Pump.

Authorities say she was crossing Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton Tuesday evening when she was hit by a pickup truck.

The 81-year-old founder of Loaves and Fishes and mentor to Food Network star Ina Garten died later at the hospital.

The driver, Luis Ortega, was accused of disabling the device meant to prevent drunk driving.

He was charged with circumventing an interlock device, unlicensed operation and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
