Connecticut high school football team to forfeit game due to sexting scandal

PLAINFIELD, Conn. -- A Connecticut varsity football team is forfeiting its next game after a school investigation found members of the team engaged in inappropriate cyber activity using a cellphone group chat app.

Parents say the group chat among some members of the Plainfield High School varsity football team included inappropriate pictures of underage girls and a team member, as well as inappropriate videos. The group chat occurred on the cellphone app "WhatsApp."

Principal Jim Worth says he found out about the activity last Thursday.

The Plainfield superintendent says the district decided the team had to accept responsibility as a team and forfeit Friday's game against Waterford High School.

Plainfield police have not responded to requests for comment.

It is unknown if any students are facing further disciplinary action.
