2 pedestrians hit, killed in New Jersey crossing Route 440

BAYONNE, N.J. (WABC) -- Two men were struck and killed in the middle of Route 440 in Bayonne Monday night.

According to the Bayonne Police Department, around 11:15 p.m., 25-year-old Sabore Worrell and 20-year-old Tyler Sellers, both of Bayonne, were crossing Route 440 at 32nd Street in a crosswalk. They made it across the northbound lanes, but were struck in the southbound lanes by a red Toyota Camry.

They were killed on impact.

The driver, a man from Bayonne, stopped at the scene. He had minor injuries. No summonses were immediately issued.

Detectives have recovered surveillance video to determine if the pedestrians were crossing with the light.

The investigation continues.

Route 440 was closed in the area for the investigation, but reopened for the morning commute.
