15 charged in Newark heroin distribution organization

NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) -- Fifteen people were charged Thursday for their roles in a heroin distribution organization in Newark.

According to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman, the group operated out of a building on Johnson Avenue. It sold millions worth of the drug.

Almalik Anderson and Quawee Jones, who are accused of being the leaders of the operation, are charged with engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise.

All 15 defendants are charged with one count each of conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Six defendants remain at large. The nine defendants in custody are scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday in Newark.
